Bank Holidays

I sit at my desk as I write this and I think about how today is a Friday but because of the beautiful invention of Bank Holidays, I get to not come in to work on Monday.

I’ve actually got a three day weekend but whatever am I going to do with all that time??

Maybe some gardening? A little grunt work? or should I spend the holiday sleeping in? I should probably do that.

Let me take all five of you who actually read this back to earlier this week. On Wednesday, I woke up or rather my alarm woke me up at 6am while I was having a rather pleasant dream about a world where I didn’t have to work. You know… the good kind.

I wasn’t feeling very inclined to getting up and I did go to bed rather late the night before. Irresponsible, I know🙄

But look at it this way, the only reason I was up late was because I was watching a movie that my manager recommended so in essence, I was working. Anyway, I turned my alarm off and I had only a split second to make a decision. Am I getting ready for work or am I going back to sleep?

Guess what I chose? I went back to sleep, of course. I texted my manager at 6am and asked if I could come in at 12pm rather than 9am. My dears, I didn’t wait for a response, I was unconscious in less than two minutes after I sent the message. Luckily for me, My manager is an actual person with feelings and not a sadistic robot that many people claim to work for and he said sure. He did ask if everything was okay, I obviously didn’t see that until I was on the bus to work five hours later to which I responded:

If I’m being completely honestly, which I always am, I would have been less valuable than a printer without a toner in that office if I had resumed at 9am. In the end, it worked out in everyone’s interest (especially me). I was honestly working on a monthlong backlog of sleep. fortunately, I could catch up on it in a few hours. Can you imagine how we would function if we had to catch up on all the missed hours of sleep rather than just the required eight hours???
